An American Aromanticism is a Theatre-Dance piece exploring the aromantic relationships we have with some of Americas biggest stereotype(s). Using the album "Aromanticism" by Moses Sumney as a backdrop, this piece brings to life different stories of what it is like to be involuntarily assigned to a stereotype(s) which doesn't encompass an individual’s experience, feelings, circumstances, or perception of themselves. Taking an experimental approach, we delve into the way the body moves and works in response to rejecting or accepting these assigned characteristics. Through the story it is our hope to provoke thought around how we as a society have become comfortable with tropes of the past parading in the present as acceptable ideas and preconceived notions. We also aim to demonstrate what it looks like for people who choose to define their own individuality in spite of these stereotypes.

A Short play by Greg Romero about “Claire who carries a suitcase holding memories of the life she doesn’t know she is leaving. Bruce, almost-remembered, enters, repeatedly, with a wedding cake. They walk together through the fragments to the top of the mountain while an elephant, illuminated from the lantern in Claire’s suitcase, transports things from one place to another.
I took this beautiful story in a different direction by adding dance to it to really enhance the story and bring to life some of the abstract concepts in the piece.

This piece is an artistic expression of the process of grief and how art can have an important impact on the healing process. An Obscurus is the manifestation of the repressed energy of a magical child known as an Obscurial. Described as a "dark" and "parasitic" force, an Obscurus was created when the child in question consciously attempted to repress their talent or were forced to do so through physical or psychological abuse. This energy could manifest itself as a separate entity that can erupt in violent, destructive fury.
